Men’s Health Issues You deserve to be at your optimum health, no matter your age or the challenges that every man experiences unique to their life style. Today couldn’t be a better time to take charge of your health. We have more options (and opportunities) than ever before when it comes to our healthcare. You don’t have to sit back and just accept the changes that come with hormone imbalances, prostate issue, chronic pain, and heart disease; we offer a variety of options to return you to your greatest health. If hormonal changes and imbalances are causing Erectile Dysfunction, Prostate Issue, Low Testosterone, or Fatigue, now is the time to look to an alternative approach to finding answers. Our doctors and staff can help you address or prevent these issues using natural medicine, without the limitations or side effects often associated with conventional medicine. Holistic care finds the root cause, focuses on comprehensive care, and helps educate you so that you will find the greatest benefit and long lasting results by following your own unique treatment plan. Adrenal Fatigue The adrenal glands are what control your body’s “fight or flight” mode. They produce hormones such as Cortisol (which is essential for helping our bodies cope with stress and fight infection), but when our adrenal glands become fatigued our entire body is affected. Balance is crucial as Cortisol sustains life and affects every tissue, organ, and gland in the body. The body will work to get by, but not without consequences, and other chronic conditions are usually preceded by Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome. There are a variety of symptoms you may be experiencing, some times for years, because we assume they are natural or just from being run down. They may include: fatigue/lethargy (tired when you finally climb out of bed; tired between 3 - 5 pm; tired between 9 -10 pm, but resist going to bed), unexplained hair loss (pulling what seem like small yeti’s from the shower drain is not normal), cravings of salty or sugary foods, lowered blood pressure and blood sugar, brain fog, decreased sex drive, weight gain and inability to lose weight (especially around the waist), and more. IPM can help cleanse your adrenal system and get the hormones back in to balance, naturally. We treat Adrenal Fatigue through the use of acupuncture and natural supplements. These services provide your body with a natural balance of energy, vitamins, and minerals that are essential for your health. Prostate Issue The prostate gland is about the size of a walnut, it is part of the male reproductive system and wraps around the tube that carries urine out of the bladder. The prostate grows with age, and can cause complications if it becomes too large. Prostate issues are not always a result of cancer, it may also stem from the enlarged size, an infection, or as a result of smoking (See Our Smoking Cessation Page). Age, race, family history and diet all affect the health of your prostate. Age – Men aged 50 years and older have a higher risk of prostate issue. Race – Prostate cancer is most commonly seen among African-American men. Family History – If the men in your family have or have had prostate issues, it is more likely. Diet – A diet that contains high-fat foods with few fruits and vegetables may raise the risk of prostate issues. Common Symptoms Of Prostate Issue Includes: Frequent urge to urinate • Needing to get up many times during the night to urinate Blood in the urine or semen • Painful or burning urination • Dribbling of urine Not being able to urinate • Painful ejaculation • Frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, pelvic or rectal area, or upper thighs We perform Prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, blood tests to gain more knowledge about the prostate issue. The PSA test measures the level of PSA in a man’s blood to determine how we can work as a team to form the best plan of care for our patient. The blood level of PSA is often elevated in men with prostate cancer. However cancer is not always the cause! A number of non-cancerous conditions can cause a man’s PSA level to rise. The most frequent benign prostate conditions that cause an elevation in PSA level are prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (enlargement of the prostate). By combining alternative and holistic therapies we are able to control prostate issues and restore health. This may include nutritional counseling (identifying food sensitivities and allergies, and controlling the amount of fatty foods helps minimize stressors which may contribute to an enlarged prostate), acupuncture (which studies have shown balances the hormonal function), detoxification (to rid the body of toxins that may cause infection), and lifestyle counseling to name a few. Our natural approach promotes happy, healthy living and allows you to live your life the way you want. Heart Disease Fast Facts! • Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. More than half of the deaths due to heart disease in 2009 were in men. • About 610,000 Americans die from heart disease each year—that’s 1 in every 4 deaths. • Coronary heart disease is the most common type of heart disease, killing more than 370,000 people annually. • In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 43 seconds. Each minute, someone in the United States dies from a heart disease-related event. • Heart disease is the leading cause of death for people of most racial/ethnic groups in the United States, including African Americans, Hispanics, and whites. For Asian Americans or Pacific Islanders and American Indians or Alaska Natives, heart disease is second only to cancer. • Coronary heart disease alone costs the United States $108.9 billion each year. This total includes the cost of health care services, medications, and lost productivity. Our team knows that high blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, and smoking are key factors of high risk cases for heart disease. 49% of Americans have at least one of these three risk factors. Other medical conditions and lifestyle choices can attribute to heart disease including diabetes, being overweight, poor diet, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol use. Many of these risk factors can be managed through holistic care. Through the use of nutritional counseling, natural supplements and acupuncture, we can improve the health of your heart. When your heart feels healthier, you feel healthier!
